Every October, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) — a time to honor the contributions of workers with disabilities and recognize the importance of inclusive employment. At MARC, Inc. of Manchester, we see this month not just as a celebration, but as a reminder of how much stronger our community becomes when everyone has the opportunity to share their talents.
For 70+ years, MARC has been creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our mission goes beyond job placement, it’s about helping individuals discover purpose, gain independence, and feel proud of the work they do every day. Whether it’s helping local businesses, keeping community spaces clean, or lending a hand at local events, our individuals are active contributors to the fabric of our community.
But this work doesn’t happen alone. Our success is deeply rooted in the support of local employers, partners, and neighbors who believe in creating spaces where everyone belongs. When businesses open their doors to inclusive employment, they’re not just offering jobs — they’re helping build confidence, pride, and community connection.
As part of NDEAM, MARC, Inc. proudly recognizes Mike’s Golf Outlet as this year’s Inclusive Business Employer. The Hartford-based retailer has shown exceptional commitment to inclusion by providing employment opportunities and creating a welcoming environment where all staff can thrive. Their partnership with MARC demonstrates how inclusive hiring not only changes lives—it builds stronger businesses.
“There’s not a day that goes by that the team from MARC doesn’t bring joy and happiness to our daily experience,” said Mike Blair, Founder and Owner of Mike’s Golf Outlet, subsidiary of Worldwide Golf Shops. “They’re doing their jobs well—productivity is up, morale is strong, and they’ve become the backbone of areas that weren’t filled so well before. It’s been an incredible benefit to our entire team.”
As we continue advancing opportunities, we invite the community to join us. Share this article. Connect us with local businesses. Help us expand opportunities for people with disabilities to give back, work with purpose, and live meaningful lives.
Because when everyone has the chance to contribute, our whole community thrives.
