Growing Up
School wasn’t always easy for me. In middle school, I once worked with an educator who struggled to see the potential in me and three of my classmates. As someone in a support role, their job was to help us succeed — but instead, we often felt discouraged and overlooked. I still remember this individual saying, “You can’t make it in life.”
I knew I was capable of more.
High school brought new challenges and opportunities. I was part of the SEAL program, which continued throughout those years.I struggled with math, and while my reading level was strong, I still faced challenges. But I kept going, stayed focused, and gave it my all. I was determined not to let anything stop me.
My Life at MARC, Inc.
When I turned 21, I started my journey with MARC, Inc. Before my first day, I had five wisdom teeth pulled! Even though I was in pain, I showed up the next day, ready to start something new.
Back then, MARC was located next to Stop & Shop. I was nervous—I didn’t know anyone—but my mom and nana came with me to support me. Once I got familiar with the space and the people, I knew MARC was a safe and welcoming place.
My first job at MARC was assembling magazines. It felt great to earn my own money and start building real work experience. After five years, I transitioned to a new opportunity and began working at Bogners Quality Meats in Manchester, CT, where I stayed for eight years. I still have a wonderful relationship with the team there and often visit to catch up with my former coworkers.
Each role taught me something valuable — from time management and drawing skills to finding joy in simple moments, like watching The Dawn Show during breaks.
In 2023, I started Project SEARCH, a program that helps people with disabilities prepare for jobs. I actually graduated from Project SEARCH back in 2024, and that November, I got a job working with kids. It was a great opportunity, but my true dream is photography.
Now, I’m getting ready to start college to study photography—and I couldn’t be more excited about this next chapter!
Thank you to MARC, Inc. for believing in me and helping me grow into the person I am today.
And thank you to the Project SEARCH team—Randy, Rob, Michael, my job coaches Tara and Joanna, and everyone who’s been part of my journey.
Independence
One of my biggest goals has always been to have my own apartment. Since I was 18, I dreamed of living independently. And now, in my 40s, that dream has come true! I have my own apartment with a roommate, and I no longer have to rely on my parents. I’m living my own life—and it feels amazing.
Looking Forward
I’ve come a long way, but my story is still being written. College is next, and photography is my passion. I can’t wait to see where the future takes me!
